Add To My Planner Internet Cafe
Cafe, Jazz Club

It feels like the party's in progress when you step down into the Internet Cafe, a long and skinny joint that opened in 1995. Heads are crouched over computer terminals, drinks are served at the bar and party favors are occasionally handed out at the door. This is another one of the new, small Manhattan clubs booked by a musician and marked by a do-it-yourself approach that for reasons of rent and career ambition has long been absent from New York jazz. The ten-piece Chuck Clark Little Big Band has played at the cafe every week since 1996; its humorist-modernist approach, combined with excellent regular musicians like Chris Washburne and Matt Hong, has made this a good stopping point on most Monday nights. Otherwise, musicians such as Marty Ehrlich, Dave Douglas, Sam Newsome, Tony Malaby, Tim Berne and Barry Altschul have become fairly regular performers. World class for what is generally a $5 cover charge. -- Ben Ratliff

There's only two-thirds of the small Internet Cafe available when the big band plays, but it's worth squeezing in to hear them.
